Those Who Have Held Us: A Conversation with Grief Elders
Those Who Have Held Us: A Conversation with Grief Elders
Thursday, September 24 | 7:00–9:00 PM
The Lantern | 2828 SE Stephens Street, Portland
Aging Well participants are warmly invited to Those Who Have Held Us: A Conversation with Grief Elders, a special intergenerational gathering exploring grief, resilience, community, advocacy, and what sustains us through a lifetime of change.
The evening will feature Portland elders Kathleen Saadat and Eric K. Ward, with facilitators Sarina Saturn, PhD and grief educator and community deathcare leader Holly Pruett.
Together, they’ll explore what our communities can teach us about grief, what sustains people through decades of advocacy and social change, and an especially meaningful question:
Who holds those who have spent so much of their lives holding others?
Kathleen Saadat specifically extended an invitation to members of the CAP Northwest community, and this gathering may be especially meaningful for Aging Well participants whose lives have been shaped by HIV/AIDS, loss, caregiving, advocacy, resilience, and chosen community.

AIDS Walk Northwest
Step Up for Resilience: Join Team Aging Well at the 2026 Portland AIDS Walk!
Mark your calendars! The Portland AIDS Walk is returning on Saturday, September 19th, and Team Aging Well needs your energy, your steps, and your support.
For decades, our community has shown up to fight stigma, honor those we’ve lost, and celebrate the incredible progress made in HIV/AIDS care. Today, thanks to medical advancements, people living with HIV are living longer, fuller lives.
This is a major milestone—but growing older with HIV comes with its own unique set of needs.
From managing long-term health concerns to overcoming social isolation and navigating specialized healthcare systems, aging with HIV requires dedicated advocacy and community support.
That’s why Team Aging Well is stepping up to ensure that long-term survivors and older adults in our region age with dignity, connection, and the specialized resources they deserve.
Whether you can walk alongside us on event day or power our efforts with a donation, every contribution helps build a healthier, more inclusive community.
